The advantage of the Lil' Tex is its relatively small cooking chamber. This allows for faster heating to cooking temperature and burning less pellets. The Lil Tex comes with an extended hopper (hopper extension not needed) and the uses approximately 2/3 of a pound of pellets per hour, about 24-28 hours of cooking at a low teperature without refilling the hopper.

In 2007, Traeger Wood Pellet Grills replaced their 180 degree controller with the 225 degree digital controllers - a great improvement over the 3-speed controller. At the same time, they removed the option for 180 degree smoking. What that means is that the lowest temperature setting is 225 degrees rather than 180 degrees.
